Ethical Research

Clinical Trials Information and Results
Amgentrials.com offers patients, investigators and the public easily accessible information about Amgen-sponsored clinical trials, including enrollment information for actively recruiting studies and results summaries for completed ones (consistent with the company’s clinical results disclosure policy - see below)

Clinical Trials and Results Disclosure Policy
Amgen is committed to the timely communication of scientifically valid results, both positive and negative, from our clinical trials.

Global Code of Ethics for Clinical Trials
Amgen is committed to protecting the rights of clinical trial participants worldwide. 

Scientific Exchange
Amgen is committed to truthful, non-misleading exchange of medical and scientific information, including clear and objective communications of risks, benefits, and safety.

Policy on the Support of U.S. Clinical Practice and Treatment Guidelines
Amgen occasionally offers financial support to independent bodies who develop clinical and treatment guidelines.  Amgen does not exert any influence or control over the development of guidelines that it has funded.

Adverse Event Reporting
An “Adverse Event” is any new, undesirable medical experience or change in an existing condition which occurs during or after use of any marketed or investigational product.  Amgen staff are required to report Adverse Events within one business day.

R&D Activities with External Parties
All Amgen sponsored, funded, or otherwise supported research activities with external parties are designed to fill a legitimate research need and it is prohibited to influence or encourage purchase, prescription, placement or sale of Amgen products.

R&D Gifts Policy
Amgen staff and their representatives in Global Research and Development organization are not permitted to provide gifts of any nature to healthcare professional and/or members of the scientific community.

Commitment to the Ethical Use of Animals in Research
Most regulating bodies, including the FDA, require that potential medicines be thoroughly tested in animals prior to human testing.  In our research, Amgen seeks to eliminate or reduce impact to animals, to provide high quality care to laboratory animals, and to use alternatives to animal research whenever possible.

Amgen Guidelines for Publications
Amgen is committed to the highest scientific and ethical standards for publications and is dedicated to providing scientifically accurate, fair, and well-balanced publications to the scientific community.

Amgen Statement on Compendia
Amgen periodically monitors the information contained in CMS-Recognized Compendia and submits corrections or updates as necessary.

Responsible Marketing and Product Information

Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) Advertising
Amgen is committed to ensuring that any advertising for our products provides accurate, accessible, and useful information to patients and consumers, including balanced presentation of risks and benefits. We follow voluntary industry guidelines governing the responsible use of DTC advertising.

Interactions with Healthcare Professionals and Other Customers
Amgen requires that all interactions with healthcare professionals and other customers comply with all applicable laws and adhere to the highest standards of professional ethics and responsibility. We meet or exceed industry guidelines that place strict limits on meals and other items provided to medical or health professionals.

Promotional Materials and Activities
All of Amgen's U.S. promotional materials are reviewed for rigorous consistency with FDA-approved product labeling.  Our marketing practices are based on valid scientific evidence.

The Amgen Foundation considers grant requests from regional, national and European nonprofit organizations that work to advance science education, improve quality of care and access for patients, and create sound communities where Amgen staff members live and work.

The Amgen Medical Education Department makes donations to qualified organizations that advance medicine and healthcare, promote healthcare professional education, educate the public on diseases and medical conditions, or support other philanthropic and charitable causes that ultimately benefit patients.

Business Conduct

Amgen Mission and Values

Code of Conduct
All staff members are required to complete Amgen’s mandatory course on ethical business conduct and compliance.  Amgen expects every staff member and contractor to conduct business ethically, to comply with all applicable laws, and to exert due diligence in preventing and detecting violations of laws or policies.

Amgen complies with all U.S. export control laws which may restrict the export of goods, software, and technology from the United States.

Foreign Corrupt Practices
Amgen maintains a strict policy against paying, offering to pay, or authorizing the payment of anything of value to any foreign (i.e. non-U.S.) government official, government staff member, political party or political candidate in an attempt to influence a person working in an official capacity.

Accurate and timely pricing information about Amgen’s products can assist healthcare providers, government and private payers, patients, and other stakeholders.
