Every staff member can improve workplace health and safety by recognizing and mitigating potential hazards. Examples include using proper personal protective equipment, ensuring your workstation is ergonomically correct, and handling and storing hazardous materials correctly.
Staff members that are involved with processes that could affect the environment should perform their jobs conscientiously. Examples include proper disposal of waste, accurate monitoring of environmental discharges and emissions and handling hazardous materials.
Staff members must report all work-related injuries, illnesses or environmental incidents to their supervisor immediately.
Amgen uses the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) system to record and report work-related illness and injuries. As the table below demonstrates, Amgen experienced a fifty-three percent reduction in the OSHA Recordable Incident Rate (RIR) between 2004 and 2007.
