Donation Types and DefinitionsThe following types of educational and scientific donations are offered:Ancillary Support for Healthcare Professionals in Training
Donations may be provided for fellows or other healthcare professionals in training for travel to nationally recognized conferences. Donations of this type are payable to institutions and conference program sponsors.Clinical Practice Guidelines Support
Amgen believes that clinical practice and treatment guidelines assist in setting appropriate standards for therapeutic management by healthcare professionals. Consistent with Amgen’s mission to serve patients, we will under some circumstances, choose to provide, when requested, financial support to qualified independent bodies that develop such guidelines.Fellowship – Stipend Support
Donations may be provided to support funding a Fellow’s stipend for in depth study in a sub-specialty of clinical practice that is accredited by The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or another appropriate accrediting body.Fundraising/Charitable Events
Donations may be provided for fundraising or charitable events that have a specific, clearly described educational program. Since Amgen may not make an unspecified donation to a hospital’s or other health care provider’s general education fund, funds are designated to support the expenses associated with the fundraising event itself. The event should be multi sponsored and open to the public. A portion of the donation must qualify as a charitable tax deduction.Independent Medical Education
Requests will be considered and supported for a variety of educational opportunities, including but not limited to live presentations, written enduring materials, online courses and conference symposia. Independent Medical Education activities are referred to as donations. Requests should be for education of healthcare professionals and consistent with ACCME guidelines.Junior Faculty Awards
Junior Faculty Awards may be provided for transitional support as investigators move from post-doctoral studies to faculty. Junior Faculty Awards are not intended to provide general salary support for junior faculty, but rather to support bona fide research.Other Healthcare Programs and Initiatives
Donations to support other healthcare programs and initiatives that are educational or scientific (not promotional), and open to the community may be provided. Amgen will not provide support for travel or lodging for non-faculty program attendees.Patient/Public Education Programs
Donations for Patient Education Programs may be provided. Patient Education Programs should directly benefit patients and support the development of patient education materials, programs or events. Donations for Public Education Programs may also be provided. Public Education Programs must be open to the public.Pharmacy Residency – Stipend Support
Donations to support funding of a Pharmacy Resident’s stipend in a pharmacy residency program may be provided. The program must be accredited by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP).Professional Medical Society Support
Support may be provided for nationally recognized organizations of medical professionals.
